Bill Gates
William Henry Gates III was born in Seattle in 1955. The grandson of a successful Seattle banker, Bill Gates received his first million dollars from his grandfather when he was still in college. His parents were also successful. Bill Gates’s father was a lawyer and his mother a bank executive. Bill Gates’s career in the world of computers started in 1975 when he dropped out of Harvard University to spend his time writing computer programs. Not long after that, he went into partnership with his friend Paul Allen, co-founded Microsoft, and started his software empire. Despite losing an antitrust ruling in 2000, Bill Gates intends to expand his empire even further, developing new software programs in the next few years.
Julia Roberts
Julia Fiona Roberts – Julia Roberts – was born in Smyrna, Georgia, in 1967. After graduating from High School, she moved to New York and tried to start a modeling career, but was not successful. She then decided to enroll in several courses for actors. In 1988, she started her movie career with “Mystic Pizza”, and became a star with the movie “Steel Magnolias” in 1989. In 2001 she won an Academy Award for “Erin Brocovich”.
Julia Roberts is at the peak of her career and one of Hollywood’s best-paid actors. She has also founded “Shoelace”, her own production company. The star now has plans to produce some of her own films.
Carlos Slim Helú
Carlos Slim Helú, Latin America’s richest man, was born in Mexico City in 1940 and made a fortune buying and reselling companies. One of his most successful deals was buying Telmex – the Mexican telephone monopoly – in 1990. In four years, his fortune reached a staggering US$4.4 billion. As a result of customer complaints about the cellular division of Telmex, however, he had to spend $1.8 billion improving services. In 1997, the Mexican government opened the telecommunications market to U.S. competitors but Slim kept his share of the market and saved his business. Recently Slim has invested in Internet provider services and the computing industry. He hopes to become and even stronger investor in these areas over the next few years.
